Porcelain Crowns Mississauga On

With time, teeth can get worn down. Decay, fillings, trauma, or even just healthy chewing habits can cause stress to your teeth.

A porcelain dental crown or ‘cap’ is a cover that is placed over a tooth to protect a weakened tooth from further fracturing or deteriorating. A Porcelain crown also replaces a discolored or poorly shaped tooth and can protect a tooth that has had root canal treatment.

All-porcelain crowns are the most aesthetic choice since they closely resemble the color and appearance of your teeth. Porcelain technology continues to improve. St. Lawrence Dentistry often uses newly developed porcelain materials, such as ‘Zirconium’ and ‘Emax’, which can better withstand the forces of chewing compared to legacy materials.

It usually takes two visits to complete your crown. On your first visit, Dr. Hawryluk Jr. will shape and prepare the tooth so the crown can properly fit over it. The dentist also takes an impression of the area, which given to Teresa, our dental technician. The crown will take about two weeks to make. In the interim, Dr. Hawryluk places a temporary crown made out of acrylic.

On your second visit, the dentist will ‘try-in’ your new crown. If the fit, shape, and color of the crown are excellent, Dr. Hawryluk will proceed with permanently cementing it into place. After the successful completion of the crown, it is not uncommon to feel some discomfort, mild pain when you chew, or sensitivity to temperature changes for a few days. If your newly cemented porcelain crown feels too tall or your bite doesn’t quite feel right, please let us know as soon as possible.

The establishment of our office was in 1975, and many dental crowns that we have placed in these early years are still functioning well. If you need a dental crown, we will ensure beautiful esthetics and an excellent fit.
